Celebrating Pride Month and the LGBTQ+ Community
Pride month is a celebration for the LGBTQ+ community. The first Pride Day Parade took place in New York, June 28th, 1970.
Pride month allows more and more people to acknowledge the problems and challenges that those in the LGBTQ+ community are facing and how the fight for equality is never ending. Pride month is to allow everyone to embrace who they really are without any judgements for the whole world to see. The pride community using all of the elaborate colours, makeup and costumes to shine for the whole world to see how proud they are to embrace who they are!
Around the world there are various celebrations supporting the LGBTQ+ community and raising awareness. Thousands across the United Kingdom are celebrating in any way they can. Some celebrate by attending parades which are dotted across the country, and some people celebrate by learning more information and history on Pride Month and how to help raise more awareness.
Pride Month not only is a celebration, but it is also a reminder that the fight this community is facing is still ongoing. Pride month aims to encourage other communities and individuals to help prevent discrimination from continuing and work towards everyone becoming equal and protected by all.
Everyone can get involved in supporting and celebrating. The official Pride Day takes place on 28th June- to commemorate where it all began. The Pride Parade in London will be held on Saturday 1st July, going from Hyde Park to Whitehall place with over 3000 participants already taking part!
